5 Simple Ways to Clean and Maintain Your Steel Bottle
One of the best things about a stainless steel bottle is that it’s built for the long haul. But like anything you use daily, a little care goes a long way in keeping it performing — and smelling — the way it should.
1. Rinse it every single day. Even if you’re refilling with plain water, a quick rinse after each use stops residue from building up, especially around the cap and threads where moisture likes to sit.
2. Deep clean weekly. Fill the bottle with warm water, a spoon of baking soda, and a splash of vinegar. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then scrub with a bottle brush that can reach the base. This clears out odours before they set in.
3. Don’t skip the cap. Most lingering smells come from the cap or seal, not the bottle body. Take it apart if it’s designed to, and clean every groove.
4. Let it air dry, fully open. Sealing a damp bottle traps moisture inside and invites a musty smell. Leave the cap off until it’s completely dry before storing.
5. Skip the dishwasher for insulated bottles. High heat can damage the vacuum seal on double-wall bottles over time. A hand wash keeps the insulation performing at its best for years.
Five minutes of care a week is a small price for a bottle that’s built to outlast a dozen plastic ones.
